Rio de Janeiro Carnival to Start on February 9

The most famous overseas carnival, held annually in Rio de Janeiro, will take place next year from February 9 to 14. During the carnival, Brazil's second-largest city welcomes approximately one million tourists from around the world.

Street parties, costume parades, and, of course, plenty of samba—that's what attracts travelers to the carnival. Festivities begin in Rio several weeks before the event, culminating in the samba school parade, held at a special stadium, the Sambadrome, in the Estacio neighborhood. Several thousand people participate in preparing each school's themed performances, which takes an entire year.

Almost every city block hosts its own parties before and during the carnival, reports Travel.ru. Admission to these events is free, and fun and unforgettable experiences are guaranteed.

Tickets for the samba school parade can be purchased on the carnival website. The most affordable seats for visitors are in sectors 10-12 of the Sambódromo.
