Flights to Cairo are planned to open in mid-February.

Documentation exchange with Egypt on resuming air travel is underway, with the first flights between Moscow and Cairo expected in mid-February, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said, according to RIA Novosti.

“The exchange of documentation is already underway both from the side "Aeroflot and the Egyptian company EgyptAir are working on this. As I said earlier, we need about a month and a half to resume operations after the Russian president's decision, which was made in early January. We expect the first flights from Moscow to the capital of the Republic of Egypt to begin around mid-February," Sokolov told reporters.

He noted that for now, only these two companies are working on reopening air service. "But if any other carriers apply, we will consider the matter with the Egyptian aviation authorities within the framework of our air service agreement," the Minister of Transport added.

On December 15, 2017, in Moscow, the Russian and Egyptian transport ministries signed a protocol on cooperation on aviation security, necessary for the resumption of flights. Egyptian Aviation Minister Sherif Fathi announced at the time that regular flights between Moscow and Cairo would resume in February. On January 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree lifting Cairo's ban on Russian airlines flying to Egypt and allowing the sale of tours that include flights to the city.
