Etihad Airways has made changes to its baggage allowance. The carrier has returned from the piece concept to the weight concept of baggage allowance. At the same time, for expensive fares the allowance is usually reduced, for some economy class fares it is increased, reports our own correspondent Travel.ru.
The new rates apply to tickets sold from February 1. For the most economical Deals fare, the limit remains the same - 23 kilograms, but it can now be distributed among several bags. For the next level, Saver, the norm has been increased from 23 kilograms to 30 - also with the possibility of distribution. This is a return to the previous standards that were in effect before 2015.
For the other two groups of economy class fares (Classic and Flex), the norm has been reduced - from 2 pieces of 23 kilograms to 30 and 35 kilograms, respectively. The limit in elite classes has also been reduced - instead of 2 pieces of 32 kilograms, business class passengers can carry only 40 kilograms free of charge, and first class passengers - 50.
Elite members of the Etihad Guest programme have an additional baggage allowance in all classes. Only one piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 7 kilograms is allowed in all classes. Please note that special allowances apply to some routes. For tickets issued before 31 January, the previous rules apply.
As a result, Etihad Airways' standards are now almost identical to those of its neighbors Emirates (the latter only allows 20 kilograms on its cheapest fares). Another Middle Eastern carrier, Qatar Airways, maintains a minimum 30 kilograms limit in economy class.
