Authorities on the Spanish island of Mallorca have decided to double- to quadruple-scale fines for tourists who disturb public order and the peace of local residents.
The resort town of Magaluf has compiled a list of the most common violations and the fines for dissolute tourists. Specifically, if a vacationer decides to appear naked or semi-naked in a public place or relieve themselves on the street, they will be fined €400. Fines of €200 to €500 also await those participating in noisy street parties with alcohol. Throwing a bottle on the road carries a €500 fine, disrespecting a police officer carries a €400 fine, throwing cigarette butts, papers, and chewing gum past a trash can carries a €200 fine, carrying alcohol outside a business in any container carries a €200 fine, and graffiti carries a €100 fine.
According to the British publication The Sun, if the fine is paid within ten days, the offender receives a 50% discount. It is drunken tourists from the UK who most often come to the attention of police in Mallorca.
In addition, Magaluf authorities have asked the Balearic Islands government to ban free alcohol in all-inclusive hotels, and to abolish happy hours and offers such as "two cocktails for the price of one."
