Tourists around the world are increasingly staying in luxury hotels; by 2021, there will be almost 400 million such travelers, according to a study by the British company GlobalData, Interfax-Tourism reports.
In 2009, 186.3 million people stayed in luxury hotels. tourists, while in 2017 it was already 306.3 million. It is expected that by 2021 the number of tourists preferring luxury hotels will grow to 394.6 million people.
Experts noted that the concept of luxury tourism has changed in recent years, with wealthy travelers seeking to invest in experiencing other cultures and unique experiences, rather than simply purchasing luxury.
Moreover, they say, luxury travel is becoming more accessible and is no longer the preserve of only the upper middle class, wealthy, and ultra-wealthy tourists.
Experts also named travelers from Asian countries as among the most interested in luxury tourism, particularly wellness trips.
