By decision of the Russian authorities, consent for the operation of the US Consulate General in St. Petersburg has been revoked; the diplomatic mission must close and vacate the building it occupies in the city center by March 31.
As RIA Novosti reports, Russia took such measures in response to the "unfriendly actions of the United States." In addition, 60 American diplomats are being expelled from Russia - 58 employees of the diplomatic mission in Moscow and two from the consulate in Yekaterinburg. All of them must leave our country by April 5.
The closure of the US Consulate General will negatively affect the time it takes for tourists to obtain visas to this country. The consulate in St. Petersburg served applicants from the North-West region of Russia.
