Madrid authorities have cleared the city center of the "living statues" so beloved by tourists. Street performers working in this genre are now prohibited from working in the city's most touristy areas.
The Spanish capital's city hall believes that the large concentration of "living statues" in the central squares was obstructing the passage of local residents and tourists. According to Noticia.ru, the measures taken by the city administration are in line with the Terrorist Attack Prevention Plan and the Citizen Security Law, as attackers may pose as street performers to carry out attacks.
Street performers are outraged by the new ban and are asking city authorities to regulate their activities, expressing their willingness to pay taxes. The mayor's office has promised to try to find a solution.
