London and Paris lead in the number of international air passenger arrivals, according to a quarterly report by European Cities Marketing and ForwardKeys.
According to a study, in the second quarter of 2018, the number of flights arriving in Europe from distant countries increased by 8.41% compared to the same period last year. This growth offset the 4.11% decline in intra-European arrivals. Experts note that this trend will continue in the third quarter.
The most popular cities for international travelers were London, with 171,000 passengers, and Paris, with 141,000 passengers. Istanbul ranked third. Geneva, Tallinn, Dubrovnik, and Zurich also made the top 10. Interestingly, Swiss cities were absent from the top 10 in the first quarter. The depreciation of the Swiss franc may have contributed to the increase in travelers.
According to experts, Asia, Oceania, and Central and South America demonstrated strong growth in the number of flights to Europe in the second quarter of the year. Including intra-European flights, London, Paris, and Rome were the top three destinations for international arrivals. Istanbul, Tallinn, and Dubrovnik will compete for a spot in the top three in the third quarter of 2018.
