The Ministry of Economic Development will replace the Ministry of Culture as the Ministry of Culture's primary regulator of the tourism industry in Russia. The corresponding presidential decree has been published on the official legal information portal.
According to the decree, the functions of implementing state policy Responsibilities in tourism and tourism activities, as well as oversight of tour operators in outbound tourism, have been transferred to the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia. Furthermore, the Federal Agency for Tourism, or Rostourism, has been transferred to the agency's jurisdiction. Previously, the Ministry of Culture oversaw the tourism industry in our country.
As noted in the document, these changes were adopted to improve public administration in the tourism sector and ensure the development of the tourism industry. Within six months, the Russian government must ensure the implementation of the presidential decree and amend existing regulations.
It should be added that Rostourism is currently responsible for such functions as the formation and maintenance of a unified federal register of tour operators, information on security threats to tourists in foreign countries, promotion of tourism products within the country and abroad, and the organization of exhibitions, conferences, and seminars.
