The Deknavolok Peninsula, located in the village of Spasskaya Guba in Karelia's Kondopozhsky District, will become attractive not only to skiers but also to those who enjoy other sports, fishing, and hunting. Visitors to the new tourist complex will be able to get acquainted with the customs of the Karelians, the government of the republic reports.
As reported by President of the Karelian Regional Public Organization "Karelian Ski Club" Vladimir Derbenev, The club was founded back in 1987 and has enjoyed popularity among residents and visitors of the republic throughout the years. The project received a new lease of life last year when the activists won a Presidential grant of 3 million rubles.
These funds were used to purchase a new ski lift, a snowmobile, and a slope grooming machine. As part of the "Skiing Without Borders" project, free skiing lessons were organized for beginners. Last season, 1,866 people skied for the first time, compared to a target of 100.
Currently, the activists are once again awaiting a decision from the competition committee on the distribution of Presidential grants. This time, the project is called "Skiing Without Borders" and aims to expand the club's services.
Strategic plans include the creation of a new tourist and health resort, the Spasskaya Guba Tourist and Recreation Complex, which will offer a full range of services, including an introduction to the national customs of the indigenous people of Karelia. Plans call for the relocation of an ancient Karelian hut to the peninsula, where a museum of Karelian life will be established.
The government confirmed that the road running through Martsialnye Vody and Spasskaya Guba towards Girvas will be brought into proper condition within the next 2–3 years.
"The Kondopozhsky district is a promising tourist destination, starting with Konchezero, where the famous Alexandrovsky factories and the Church of the Holy Trinity are located, passing through Marcial Waters with its sanatorium, ending in Spasskaya Guba and Girvas," he stated. The head of the republic, Artur Parfenchikov, emphasized.
