How many days in advance do Russians plan their trip?

Aeroexpress and the online travel service OneTwoTrip analyzed the depth of airline ticket and Aeroexpress ticket sales and determined how many days in advance passengers plan their trips.

According to the online service data for 2018, about half Of all air passengers departing from Moscow, 51% purchase their tickets less than a week before departure, of which 51% do so on the day of departure. 321% of travelers plan their trips in advance and purchase tickets 7–30 days before departure. About 211% purchase their tickets more than a month in advance, or only 0.51% of them plan their trip more than six months in advance.

Regarding transfers to and from the airport, 61% Muscovites and visitors to the capital arrange this directly on the day of departure/arrival, according to Aeroexpress ticket sales statistics. 25% passengers plan their trip to the airport slightly in advance, specifically 1-2 days before their departure/arrival date.

About 71,333 passengers consider the most convenient way to get to the airport 3 to 6 days before their flight. Another 31,333 decide on their airport transfer 7 to 10 days in advance, and the same number 11 to 30 days in advance. Only about 1,513,333 travelers purchase Aeroexpress tickets more than a month in advance.

The vast majority of Aeroexpress mobile app users—80%—prefer to purchase tickets on the day of travel. 15% purchase tickets 1-2 days in advance, while the remaining 5% purchase them 3 or more days in advance.

Website users also mostly buy tickets on the same day, but their number is significantly lower—48% of all ticket sales on the Aeroexpress website. Just over 25% buy tickets the day before their flight, and almost 8% plan their trip more than 10 days in advance.
