Russian Railways will introduce double-decker carriages to the #25/26 Moscow-Izhevsk train. They will replace the current single-decker train starting December 9. This will lead to lower prices for compartments, and the train will no longer have reserved seat and sleeping cars, reports Travel.ru.
The train schedule will also be slightly adjusted, reducing travel time by 15-40 minutes to just under 17 hours each way. Departure from Moscow is at 5:38 PM, arriving in Izhevsk at 11:26 AM. The return journey departs at 5:40 PM, arriving in Moscow at 9:23 AM.
Until December 2, tickets for trips from December 9 to 27 are sold at a promotional rate of 1,499 rubles for an upper berth in a compartment and 2,259 rubles for a lower berth. For mid-January dates, prices are currently 2,247 and 3,957 rubles, respectively. Prices are typically higher during the New Year holidays (but additional single-decker trains with lower fares will be available).
Promotional fares are technically only available from Moscow to Izhevsk or Agryz or vice versa, but they can also be used for shorter routes (for example, Moscow to Kazan or Murom to Izhevsk). In this case, you should purchase a ticket for the full Moscow-Izhevsk route and use it only for that portion.
As a reminder, air service between Moscow and Izhevsk will also be improved. Aeroflot will launch flights on this route starting October 28, and RusLine will increase flight frequency.
