German Railways is testing a ban on alcohol consumption at train stations. The six-month trial will run from November 1 to April 30 at Regensburg station, reports Travel.ru.
The ban covers both the consumption of alcohol, including beer, and the possession of open cans or bottles by passengers. Sealed cans and bottles that passengers simply carry elsewhere are permitted. Drinking alcohol in station cafes is also permitted.
Violators of the ban face fines. If the test is deemed successful, the initiative could be extended to other train stations in Germany.
