A new airport has opened in China's tourist city of Yan'an in Shaanxi Province, Regnum reports.

On November 8, at 8:30 a.m. local time, the first flight arrived at Nanniwan Airport. The airport is located in the southwestern suburbs of the city, 13 km from the city center.
The airport has 7 boarding gates, a 3 km long and 45 meter wide runway, and the terminal itself occupies an area of 13 thousand square meters.
Preparation for construction, its planning, and the construction itself took a total of 11 years. Throughout this time, builders encountered a number of difficulties due to the unstable soil in the area.
Incidentally, Yan'an is one of the main tourist attractions of "Red Tourism." "Red Tourism" is a tourism trend in Russia and China that involves visiting memorial sites associated with the history of the Communist Party, the lives of communist leaders, and the revolutionary past. This trend has recently been actively developing in China; Yan'an was previously a meeting place for Chinese communist leaders from 1935 to 1948.
