From December 27 of this year, an agreement on the mutual abolition of visa requirements for citizens of the Russian Federation and citizens of the Republic of Palau will come into force between Russia and the Republic of Palau. According to the document, citizens of both countries can enter and leave the territories without visas for up to 30 days.
Let us recall that this agreement was signed by the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Palau on September 28, 2018 in New York, when the heads of the Foreign Ministries of both countries took part in the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, TASS reports.
As noted on the official portal of Rosaviatsia, citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Palau who are holders of travel documents and do not intend to work, study or live in the Republic of Palau and the Russian Federation are exempt from visa requirements for entry into the Republic of Palau, stay, exit or transit. The duration of each such stay may not exceed 30 calendar days.
In case of exceeding the above-mentioned period, citizens of one or another country are required to obtain a visa to enter the territory of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Palau.
If a tourist of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Palau is unable to leave within the specified timeframe, then "due to force majeure circumstances, in the presence of documentary or other reliable confirmation of such circumstances, on the basis of an appeal to the competent authorities of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Palau, he/she may be allowed to stay in the territory for the period necessary to return to his/her country. In such a case, a fee for extending the period of stay is not charged."
Before the signing of the agreement, a visa regime was in effect for foreign tourists, as well as for tourists from Russia. It was not necessary to obtain an entry visa in advance; it was issued upon crossing the border upon presentation of a valid foreign passport. The validity of such a visa did not exceed 30 days. If necessary, it could be extended at the Palau Immigration Department.
Palau is an island state located in the Philippine Sea of the Pacific Ocean. Many large tour operators provide tours to this destination. The state receives its main income from tourism.
