Tourists will be fined for swimming in mineral lakes in Spain.

On Spain's Costa Blanca coast, fines of up to €600 will be imposed on tourists who decide to take mud baths in the mineral lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja.

"Travelers and vacationers are warned about the ban on swimming in the lakes of La Mata and Terrevieja "due to safety concerns, as the reservoirs contain equipment that automatically extracts salt. The machinery moves underwater and could cause harm to tourists. Tourists who violate the rules will be fined between €60 and €577. In addition, private security guards will patrol the area to prevent violations," reports the Express portal.

In addition, the publication also notes that tour companies that conducted excursions to La Mata and Torrevieja have also been warned that organized trips to the lakes are prohibited.

"The ban on swimming in the salt lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja will last until the end of the summer," said environmental rights director Antoni Marzo, according to the portal.

As a reminder, it was previously announced that, as of April 1, tourists are prohibited from drinking alcohol in the central and coastal areas of Palma. Violations of this ban will result in a fine of up to €3,000.
