On the closing day of the ski season, May 12, the resort's guests will be treated to a traditional mass-start mountain bike race. The bravest extreme sports enthusiasts will cover a distance of over 5 km along a mixed course: starting at an altitude of 2,200 m on a snowy slope, they will finish on the green grass in the Upper Town at an altitude of 960 m.
The Megalavina cycling event will take place as part of the Gorky Bike Weekend, during which mountain bike enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to compete in the first stage of the Gorky Gorod Downhill Cup. On May 10th and 11th, training and qualifying races will be held at the resort, and on May 12th, before the start of the Megalavina, the final race will take place at the resort's Gorky Bike Park.
The second weekend of the May holidays will also see the final ski and snowboard competitions of the 2018/2019 winter season. At an altitude of 2,050 meters, the Gorki Gorod snowpark will host an amateur Fun Contest for adults and children, featuring ski jumps and bar jumps. The resort will also host the most anticipated event of the winter season for the first time: the spectacular Pool Contest, featuring races in creative costumes across the highest mountain pool. Anyone wishing to watch these spectacular events will have daily access to the sun loungers on the white beach near the snowpark, where they can not only enjoy the performances of professionals and amateurs but also sunbathe against a backdrop of panoramic views of the mountain peaks.
Traditionally, Gorki Gorod is the last of Sochi's Krasnaya Polyana ski resorts to close its winter ski season. This is possible thanks to the resort's unique climate zones, known as cirques, where excellent snow cover persists until mid-May at altitudes above 2,000 meters.
After May 12, the Gorki Gorod resort will begin maintenance on its cable cars ahead of the summer season opening on June 1.
