Prosecutor's Office: Most air crashes are caused by crew fault

The Prosecutor General's Office has uncovered a number of violations in pilot training and certification. In this regard, the agency's official spokesman, Alexander Kurennoy, stated that the majority of air crashes are caused by crew fault.

"Despite "Despite the measures taken, the situation regarding flight safety remains unfavorable. The majority of aviation accidents are caused by the actions of aircraft crew members," he said, speaking on the Prosecutor General's Office's online channel "Efir," according to TASS.

He also noted that in the first half of the year, the number of aviation accidents decreased from 17 to 13, compared to last year. However, he emphasized that the number of accident victims remains high.

Furthermore, Alexander Kurennoy added that the prosecutor's office identified a number of violations in pilot training, as well as in the issuance of certificates to aviation specialists.

"That is, while training was provided on paper, in reality, the person never received it. Furthermore, the qualification commissions of the Rosaviatsia regional offices uncovered violations in the issuance of certificates to aviation specialists. Furthermore, investigations into aviation incidents didn't always identify the causes or develop measures to prevent similar situations in the future," he noted.

Among other things, during the inspections, the prosecutor's office uncovered instances of a lack of necessary logistical support and staffing conditions at organizations training pilots and aircraft maintenance personnel. Some institutions even operated without the necessary certifications.

"As for airlines, there have been cases where pilots were allowed to fly without having completed the appropriate flight and simulator training; some didn't even have the right to operate a specific type of aircraft," he said.
