Budapest, known worldwide as the Pearl of the Danube, appeared on world maps in 1873 when three cities—Buda, Óbuda, and Pest—merged into one. This rich past explains Budapest's current appearance, where history, modernity, and the future coexist harmoniously. Beautiful Buda, nestled among the hills of the right bank of the Danube, is rich in ancient monuments. Situated on the opposite bank, Pest, with its colorful shopfronts reflecting the latest fashion trends, is often compared to Paris. Builders and architects have succeeded in harmoniously integrating modern buildings into the city's historic architecture. For years, Budapest has been included among the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. Its ancient architecture and stunning views from the banks of the Danube invite long strolls.
The region's spa resorts are located on Lake Hévíz and Lake Balaton and annually attract hundreds of thousands of tourists from both Europe and Russia. At these modern health resorts, guests suffering from cardiovascular and musculoskeletal conditions successfully undergo treatment programs.
