Bangkok authorities have decided to restore old klongs (water channels) and develop tourist routes along them.

"The city authorities decided to turn the old waterways into tourist routes and have already begun their restoration. In May, “The King Lord Klong has been renovated and is already being used by foreign tourists, with Khlong Prawet Burirom and Khlong Bang Luang next in line,” The Thaige reports.
The portal also reports that the Prawet Buri Rom canal, which flows toward Suvarnabhumi International Airport, and Bang Luang, home to numerous floating markets, will also be renovated. There are approximately 1,825 such klongs in Thailand.

It's also noted that by traveling along the canals on boats, tourists experience the traditional Thai way of life. Currently, canal rides are free.
