Flydubai joins Emirates loyalty program

Flydubai has abandoned its own loyalty programme, Open, in favour of joining the Skywards programme of fellow Dubai-based carrier Emirates. This is the result of the expanding cooperation between the two airlines, which launched a joint codeshare program last year, reports Travel.ru's own correspondent.

The Open program lasted just over a year and a half. It will be closed on July 31. As far as we understand, most members who didn't manage to redeem their points (which were awarded based on the amount spent on tickets) will receive a voucher for a certain amount after the program closes, allowing them to redeem a discount on a future flydubai booking. The algorithm for converting points into voucher amounts hasn't been published, just as most of the program's essential terms and conditions weren't made public when Open launched.

Frequent flyers who have reached Gold tier status over the past eighteen months will likely benefit from the reform. They will be upgraded to Skywards Gold tier status and will also be able to convert every two Open points into one Skywards mile (which uses the classic Skywards mileage accrual system, based on distance and fare, rather than a cash-based system).
