Ironman race to be held in Slovenia

Sports tourism is becoming increasingly popular—many Russians travel abroad to participate in various competitions, such as marathons, swimming races, cycling races, or to cheer on other participants. On September 23, Slovenia will host the world-famous Ironman triathlon race, one of the most spectacular competitions of its kind.

It was no coincidence that Slovenia was chosen by the World Triathlon Corporation to host the race, according to Euromag.ru. The country is located in the heart of Europe at the crossroads of four contrasting landscapes: the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Pannonian Plain, and the Karst. The competition will be held on the Adriatic coast in the Istria region.

Triathlon is a multisport race consisting of three consecutive stages: swimming, cycling, and running. The Ironman 70.3 Istria includes a 1.2-mile (1.9-kilometer) swim, a 56-mile (90.1-kilometer) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21-kilometer) run.
