Rostov-on-Don has suspended a new large bus route to the airport. Route 700 has only been in operation for five days, according to a Travel.ru correspondent.
Gantenbein buses have disappeared from the airport route since June 10. The carrier, which was operating virtually empty and on a strange schedule, had disagreements with local authorities.
"We have concerns about the carrier," said Rostov Region Transport Minister Andrei Ivanov. "They overestimated their capabilities, and now it's quite likely that their transportation license will be revoked. However, in any case, large buses will return to service—the issue should be resolved this week. We have backup buses that can replace the Gantenbein if necessary."
Gantenbein launched its route without any advertising—either in advance or visually at stops—and ultimately found itself without passengers. Worse still, the company's buses at the airport, instead of picking up passengers near the minibuses, would instead drive to a layover area. Then, when they returned at their scheduled departure time, they predictably found no one waiting for them—since the stop wasn't even marked.
Minibuses 285 and 286 continue to serve the airport. On football matchdays, they offer free travel for football ticket holders.
