Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to expand the list of populated areas included in the "Golden Ring of Russia" tourist route by June 30. The corresponding document was published on the Kremlin website on Sunday, RIA Novosti reports.

"The Government of the Russian Federation, in conjunction with the executive authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and with the involvement of the Association for the Development of Historical Settlements 'Russian Province,' the Association 'United All-Russian Association of Municipalities (Congress),' and the All-Russian Public Organization 'All-Russian Council of Local Self-Government,' shall prepare and submit proposals providing for... expanding the list of municipalities included in the 'Golden Ring of Russia' tourist route. Deadline: June 30, 2018," the document states.
Putin also ordered an increase in revenues for local municipalities where historical settlements are located. Furthermore, the government and senior officials of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation were instructed to enhance the tourism and investment attractiveness of small towns and historical settlements.
According to the document, Putin also ordered the creation of mechanisms for disseminating "best practices for the development of small towns and historic settlements." Furthermore, the president instructed the establishment of a procedure for determining the maximum cost of state historical and cultural assessments, as well as for conducting archaeological work on the territories of historic settlements. The government and senior officials of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation were also instructed to improve the procedures and conditions for conducting archaeological surveys on the territories of historic settlements, as well as to clarify the criteria for classifying a municipality as a historic settlement.
