The musician had to give a concert on a plane to find room for his violin.

An American violinist was forced to give a mini-concert on board a plane to secure space for his instrument in the overhead compartment. The impromptu performance took place on a Delta flight to Cincinnati.

Violinist Giora Schmidt made it to his flight at the last minute and boarded when the overhead bins of the small CRJ regional jet were already occupied by other passengers' luggage. He approached a flight attendant and declared that he would not, under any circumstances, check his violin in—likely remembering the numerous instances of musical instruments being damaged by baggage handlers. One such incident even led to the release of a hit by "United Breaks Guitars."

A Delta flight attendant found a way around the situation by offering to use a violinist's violin in exchange for overhead storage. She then approached other passengers, offering to stow their belongings under their seats in exchange for a concert, ClassicFM reports.

A berth was immediately found. However, as the plane began its descent, the flight attendant reminded Schmidt of his concert promise. Turbulence proved challenging, but the musician nevertheless performed Bach's Partita No. 3, earning a standing ovation from the audience. A clip of the performance can be viewed on Schmidt's Facebook page.
