About 4% tourists do not visit Duty Free shops

Travel service OneTwoTrip conducted a user survey to determine travelers' attitudes toward duty-free shops at airports: whether they visit duty-free shops, what they buy, and whether they've reduced their spending due to the higher exchange rate.

Survey A survey showed that only 41% of Russian travelers don't visit duty-free shops before their flights. 71% of respondents admitted that duty-free shops are a must-see during their international trips. 25% of respondents said they visit duty-free shops almost always, making rare exceptions. Only 41% of respondents stated a categorical lack of interest in duty-free shops.

When tourists fly on vacation, they most often buy alcohol (45% responses). On the way home, their preferences shift, and cosmetics and perfumes become the most popular product category (42% responses). The share of souvenirs in their preference structure also increases sharply (from 2% to 9% responses).

We also asked travelers whether they had noticed a recent decrease in their visits to duty-free shops or purchases. 42% responded positively, confirming a decline in interest in duty-free. They cited rising prices and a perceived lack of distinction between duty-free and regular stores as reasons for this (69% responses), a general desire to save money (20%), and a shift away from alcohol, which they had traditionally purchased at duty-free shops (9%).
