Plyos tops the popularity rankings of small Russian cities.

Plyos, located in the northern Ivanovo region, was the most popular small tourist town (with a population of up to 10,000) in Russia this summer, topping the rankings compiled by the analytical agency TurStat.

The small town ranking was created based on an analysis of tourist popularity in the summer of 2018. It included small towns in the Ivanovo, Vladimir, Yaroslavl, and Vologda regions, as well as Tatarstan.

The top 5 small towns in Russia for vacation and travel this summer are:
1. Plyos (Ivanovo region)
2. Suzdal (Vladimir region)
3. Kirillov (Vologda region)
4. Bolgar (Republic of Tatarstan)
5. Myshkin (Yaroslavl region)

According to the agency, tourists vacation in small towns for an average of two days and spend between 2,000 and 2,500 rubles on accommodation.

Plyos is a picturesque ancient town on the Volga River, one of the main tourist centers of the Ivanovo region. Plyos boasts eight ancient churches, the Isaac Levitan Museum, a landscape museum, and several private museums.
