On August 29, the town of Buñol in eastern Spain, 40 kilometers west of Valencia, will host a traditional harvest festival known for its fun tomato fight. Every year, thousands of tourists come to La Tomatina to throw tomatoes at each other. Since 2013, a fee has been charged for the right to participate in the battle in order to at least somehow limit the flow of those wishing to participate.
During the hour-long battle, over 150 tons of select tomatoes from Andalusia are destroyed. After the tomato slaughter, the festival participants continue their entertainment with live music and plenty of delicious food.
Tickets for the La Tomatina start at 12 euros, according to Travel.ru. The maximum number of participants in the battle is 22,000. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Swimming goggles are recommended to prevent tomato juice from getting into your eyes.
