Russian Railways gave a discount on the slow Lastochka Moscow-St. Petersburg train

Russian Railways has introduced a special offer for travel on the new Lastochka train between Moscow and St. Petersburg in October. A full-route ticket costs 1,000 rubles, reports Travel.ru.

The Lastochka train was permanently deployed on this route several weeks earlier. It takes almost seven hours to travel, stopping at NATI (within Moscow), Zelenograd (Kryukovo), Tver, Vyshny Volochek, Bologoye, Uglovka, Okulovka, Malaya Vishera, Chudovo, Lyuban, Tosno, Kolpino, and Obukhovo (within St. Petersburg).

In theory, the train was designed to transport passengers at intermediate stops where the faster Sapsan trains do not stop. However, the October ticket sales resulted in most tickets being purchased for the full Moscow-to-St. Petersburg route, leaving passengers at intermediate stops often without tickets. Despite the increase in train size from 5 to 10 carriages, almost all tickets for the upcoming dates have already been sold out.

In October and November, the schedule is significantly extended—up to seven and a half, and sometimes up to eight hours. Most trains depart Moscow daily at 4:55 PM, arriving in St. Petersburg at 12:30 AM. The return departure is at 1:30 PM, arriving in Moscow at 9:52 PM. In December, travel time is reduced again to less than seven hours.
