The Ghanaian Ministry of Health has confirmed the death of a person from Lassa fever who was being treated at the Noguchi Institute of Medical Research (NMIMR), Rospotrebnadzor reports.
"The diagnosis has been confirmed in the laboratory. All employees of the institute who had contact with the patient and are under observation. Possible contacts of the patient before he was admitted to the medical facility are being studied," the department clarified.
In February 2018, Ghana's Ministry of Health warned of a possible Lassa fever outbreak in the country, as the disease had already spread to several West African countries, most notably Nigeria, where more than 300 people had fallen ill.
Rospotrebnadzor asks to take this information into account when planning trips.
