From August 14 to 28, 2017, more than 1,700 citizens contacted Rospotrebnadzor with complaints about violations of their rights in the field of outbound tourism, of which about 1,200 cases were directly related to the organization of recreation in the Turkish Republic, the press service of the agency reports.
IN The department notes that, based on the results of reviewing the requests received, Rospotrebnadzor employees provided assistance in drafting over 200 claims against tour operators (travel agents) and more than 12 lawsuits have already been filed to protect the property interests of tourists.
On August 31, 2017, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova held a meeting with representatives of the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VSU) and the largest insurance companies (JSC ERV Tourist Insurance, SAO VSK, OJSC AlfaStrakhovanie, SPAO Ingosstrakh, LLC SK Soglasie, SPAO RESO-Garantiya).
"At the meeting, it was particularly emphasized that tourism legislation and consumer protection legislation impose on tour operators and travel agents the responsibility to ensure the safety of the tourist services provided. In this regard, it is important for the tour operator to receive timely, complete and reliable information on cases related to infectious diseases of tourists traveling abroad from various sources, including insurance companies.
Insurance market participants have expressed their readiness to take additional measures to ensure the safety of Russian tourists, related to the transfer of information about threats to the safety and health of tourists, including through self-regulation mechanisms and by improving the contractual framework with tour operators,” the department notes.
A decision was made to develop an algorithm for exchanging information on the number of insurance cases related to infectious diseases of tourists traveling abroad by the All-Russian Union of Insurers together with Rospotrebnadzor, as well as to develop an algorithm for informing participants in the tourism industry about the possible risks of infectious diseases that tourists may encounter. In addition, the All-Russian Union of Insurers was asked to analyze the insurance rules and insurance contracts in order to exclude conditions that may infringe on consumer rights.
