On Sunday, May 5, an Aeroflot Sukhoi Superjet 100, en route from Moscow to Murmansk, caught fire during an emergency landing at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport. According to the latest reports, one person died, and four others required medical assistance.

"According to preliminary data, today, May 5, 2019, a passenger plane en route from Moscow to Murmansk made an emergency landing at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport and caught fire. Currently, investigators have information about one fatality and four people seeking medical attention. The number of injured is being clarified," the press service of the Russian Investigative Committee reported.
They also added that a criminal case has already been opened on the basis of the incident, under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Russian Criminal Code (violation of air transport safety regulations, resulting in the death of two or more persons through negligence).
According to media reports, there were 73 people on board the plane. According to an Interfax source, the plane sent a distress signal after takeoff and began an emergency landing. The plane failed to land on the first attempt, and on the second attempt, its landing gear struck the runway, then its nose hit the runway and burst into flames.
However, the airport's press service told TRN that the fire has now been contained. The airport is operating on a limited schedule. A hotline has been opened for relatives of passengers: +7 495 232 65 40.
Later, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation informed TASS that 13 people died as a result of the tragedy, two of whom were children.
