The Accordion Museum has opened in Tula.

A new museum dedicated to the history of the accordion has opened near the Tula Kremlin. Its exhibition is based on a private collection of over a hundred musical instruments.

The "Grandfather Filimon Accordion Museum," housed in a historic building, features not only Tula musical instruments but also Saratov, Oryol, Yelets, Novorzhev, Vologda, Nizhny Novgorod, and Bologoye accordions, rezukhas, and accordions, Interfax reports. Visitors will learn the history of this popular Russian instrument, from miniature 19th-century turtle accordions to complex concert models of button accordions and bayans. The museum will also host performances, interactive lessons, and master classes.

Tula is the birthplace of the first chromatic harmonica in Russia, and, according to some researchers, in the world. It was created in 1878 by musician and founder of the world's first accordion orchestra, Nikolai Beloborodov.
