Finnair has begun equipping its narrow-body Airbus aircraft with in-flight internet access. Over the next two months—approximately until September 19—access on European flights on aircraft already equipped with this equipment will be free, reports Travel.ru.
Access is currently available on six aircraft, but this number is expected to increase to 20 by the end of the summer. The entire European Airbus fleet is expected to be equipped with internet access by next summer. The price for access after the two-month trial period will be announced in the fall.
Unfortunately, passengers on Finnair flights in Russia will barely notice these changes. The company only uses Airbus aircraft on select flights to Yekaterinburg and, since August, on select flights to St. Petersburg. Most flights on these two routes, as well as all flights to Moscow, Samara, and Kazan, are operated by Embraer 190 aircraft, which are not yet expected to be equipped with internet access. Furthermore, the carrier stated that service may be limited due to insufficient satellite coverage in parts of Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, as well as over the North Sea and the Bay of Biscay.
