Moscow will celebrate May Day with Jedi, cheerleading, and felting.

The summer season kicks off in Moscow's parks on May 1st. On this day, Muscovites and visitors can enjoy musical performances, yoga classes, soap-making workshops, and much more. The official website of the Moscow Mayor announced the upcoming celebration.

On Tuesday, May 1, in 21 capital cities The park will celebrate the opening of the summer season. Visitors will be treated to an unusual entertainment program, which was compiled through a vote by city residents. According to Alexander Kibovsky, Head of the Moscow Department of Culture, the largest influx of visitors on this day is expected at Gorky Park, Sokolniki Park, Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora, and Hermitage Garden. The opening of the summer season will also be celebrated at Zaryadye Park, Fili Park, 50th Anniversary of October Park, Krasnaya Presnya Park, Kuzminki Park, Tsaritsyno Park, Tagansky Park, Lianozovsky Park, Izmailovsky Park, and other parks.

The largest entertainment program has been prepared in Gorky Park. There will be performances by pianists and bands featuring hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul. Yoga, meditation, and even ballet classes will also be available starting early in the morning. Star Wars fans will compete in a game of "Pétanque à Jedi"—a modified version of the French sport of boules. The festive program will run in Gorky Park from 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM.  

The Hermitage Garden will welcome guests with a flower and home decor fair, a lecture on landscape design and mini-garden creation, and concerts of classical, jazz, and contemporary music. Victory Park on Poklonnaya Hill will offer performances by extreme sports enthusiasts. Girls will be able to take part in mass cheerleading—a sport that combines dance, gymnastics, and acrobatics.

At Zaryadye Park, visitors will enjoy soap making, creating 3D paper cards, and felting wool pictures. Sokolniki Park guests can enjoy a true pioneer hike through the park's attractions, accompanied by a pioneer leader, quests, and an immersion into the history of May Day. The official program begins at 1:00 PM in most parks.
