The Thai resort of Hua Hin will compete with Phuket in five years.

Reconstruction of the airport has begun at Thailand's royal resort of Hua Hin. Thai authorities estimate that the airport's renovation will increase tourist traffic to the coast tenfold, reaching 3 million people annually, Thai News reports.

Hua Hin Airport will be rebuilt Over the next five years, plans include expanding the runway from 30 to 45 meters, expanding hangars, and building a new passenger terminal. Thai authorities will spend approximately 3.5 billion baht on these projects.

The reconstruction will allow the airport to handle large international aircraft, increasing passenger traffic more than tenfold and projected to reach 3 million passengers per year.

Currently, Hua Hin Airport serves small aircraft from Malaysian airlines Berjaya Air and Air Asia and domestic aircraft from Nok Air.

The Hua Hin resort is located 220 kilometers from the capital. Hua Hin is often referred to as a royal resort, as it is home to the royal family's country residences. The resort is considered one of the oldest in Thailand.

Today, Hua Hin can be reached by bus or train from Bangkok. Travel time for the former is approximately three hours, while the latter takes just over four hours. A highway is currently under construction from the capital to the resort along the coast. Authorities also plan to launch a ferry service between Hua Hin and Pattaya.
