
From September 6, 2018, to July 31, 2019, Russians can enter and stay in Taiwan without a visa for up to 14 days, RIA Novosti reported, citing a statement from the island's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The Taiwanese government, in order to promote tourism on the island, "To promote knowledge and understanding of Taiwan among Russians, as well as to strengthen trade and economic relations with Russia, the government has decided to allow Russian citizens to travel to the island visa-free for up to 14 days as part of an experiment," the statement reads.
It is noted that the visa-free regime applies to travel for the purposes of tourism, business, participation in exhibitions, and visiting relatives.
Taiwan is an island in the Pacific Ocean, 150 km off the east coast of China. The peak tourist season runs from September to May. There are no direct flights from Moscow to the island's capital, Taipei. Tickets with a transfer in Beijing cost 57,000 rubles. Seaside vacations are available at the resorts of Hualien and Fulong. A week's stay at a 5-star hotel in Hualien costs 45,000 rubles.
