In Alushta, due to an accident at the city's sewage treatment plant, the contents of the sewage system spilled into the sea. This was reported by the information portal "Alushta 24".
According to local journalists, on Monday, August 21, vacationers began to complain about excrement floating near the shore. It was later revealed that due to the storm that had passed the day before, an accident had occurred at the city's wastewater treatment plant, which led to the discharge of faecal water into the coastal zone.
According to Deputy Head of Alushta Alexey Boyarchuk, the situation is currently under control. However, due to the current situation, the authorities had to introduce a state of emergency for two days and close most of the city beaches. Ecologist Dmitry Tikhonov said that feces are still floating in the sea and can be encountered on all three main beaches of Alushta - on the Eastern Embankment, in the center and in Professor's Corner.
Let us recall that a similar unpleasant story happened in early August in Sochi. There was a major sewer breakthrough on one of the beaches, as a result of which a black liquid spilled into the sea. However, the city administration claimed that it was drinking water. According to their version, the dark color of the liquid was caused by a mixture of soil and earth from the walls of the storm drain.
