It is small towns and dozens of lakes separated by picturesque hills.

The first destination on the route was the town of Melk, located about an hour's drive from Vienna. We stopped there for the sake of the beautiful abbey:

The abbey is located on a hill next to the Danube.

Autumn is literally leaving with each passing day. A few yellow leaves that haven't fallen hint at the beauty that was here no more than a week ago:

From Melk we reached the Salzkammergut in a few hours. The island castle Ort in Gmunden on Lake Traunsee:

Along the way there is an autumn extravaganza of colours:

Sunset in Hallstatt:

November is not the season for Salzkammergut. On the one hand, there are no summer crowds, on the other, the choice of accommodation is greatly reduced, and the choice of places to eat is even more limited. In our case, the nearest cafe was in another city 15 km away. Thanks to the owners, who know where and what is open.

The first rays of dawn on the Dachstein ridge:

Unfortunately, literally 10 minutes later everything around was very densely covered with clouds. When we got to Gosausee, it was something like this:

Hallstatt:

Here they like to grow flat trees that literally merge with the house:

The center of the town.

The grey weather was depressing. The original plan to take the cable car up to Dachstein was pointless, as it did not promise any view due to the low clouds. So we decided to go to the neighboring valley, hoping that the weather would be a little better there. We chose the Grundlsee lake as our destination.

The result more than justified the expectations. Less than 10 km in a straight line, but what a difference in the weather! It's golden autumn and warm sun.

And again, it's not the right season. Everything is closed: cafes, restaurants, fish and other stores, parking meters in the parks (!!), boat rentals. Only the toilet in the parking lot with the closed parking meter is open!

Thank you for your attention!

Source: travel.ru

The Salzkammergut is Austria's lake district.
