The city of Svetlogorsk, known as Rauschen until 1946, is located on the Baltic Sea coast in the Kaliningrad region. It is a resort town with numerous sanatoriums, boarding houses, and holiday homes. Svetlogorsk boasts many surviving German-era buildings. Legend has it that the city, with its frequent inclement weather and lush greenery, was originally intended to be named Zelenogradsk, but due to confusion (in 1946), it became Svetlogorsk, and the city, which at the time lacked greenery, became Zelenogradsk.<\/p>\n
