Kala-Kulak Gorge is one of the most picturesque gorges in Kabordino-Balkaria. Translated from the Balkarian language, it means "Tower Gorge."<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

The rocky outcrops were formed as a result of erosion and weathering of rocks on the slopes of the gorge.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

The castles are quite impressive in size.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

Some have very bizarre shapes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

But, for all their originality and quirkiness, the gorge's slopes are fraught with danger. Mudflows are a common occurrence here. The photo shows the traces of a mudflow that caused considerable damage to the Dzhily-Su ravine.<\/p>\n

A path runs along the stream through the gorge.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

The bottom of the gorge is illuminated by the sun for a short time only in the early morning and evening, so moss and lichens reign here.<\/p>\n

In the evening, guests of Dzhily-Su, in search of cell phone service, climb the ridge of the gorge to share the latest news with their family and friends.<\/p>\n

From the top of the ridge there is a beautiful view of the Dzhily-Su tract.<\/p>\n

In clear weather, the castles look impressive against the backdrop of majestic Elbrus.<\/p>\n

Our last evening in Dzhily-Su. This extraordinary corner of our planet will remain etched in my memory for a long time.<\/p>\n
