In the island nation of Sri Lanka, clashes between Buddhist and Muslim communities continue, and after several days of unrest, the country's authorities have decided to declare a state of emergency.<\/p>\n

According to Interfax, the restrictive measures have been imposed for ten days to "take strict measures" against those provoking intercommunal clashes. Earlier on Monday, a curfew was imposed in the major Sri Lankan city of Kandy due to unrest.<\/p>\n

Conflict between the two communities has been flaring up for the past year, with Buddhists accusing Muslims of forcing people to convert to Islam and destroying Buddhist archaeological sites.<\/p>\n

The Federal Agency for Tourism (Rostourism) urges Russian citizens currently in Sri Lanka or planning a trip to the country to heed this information. Rostourism also recommends that tour operators serving this destination inform their clients of the unfavorable situation in central Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
