\nOn the top of one of the hills, 140 kilometers from Rome, stands a small town Civita di Bagnoregio.<\/strong> This ghost town was added to UNESCO's list of 100 most endangered sites in 2006. We stumbled upon it by chance on our way from Orvieto, late in the evening and in poor weather, but it still struck us with its coziness and atmosphere. Currently, the town has a population of about 14 people in winter and 100 in summer, maintaining a unique medieval atmosphere. Access is only via a pedestrian bridge.<\/p>\n

We rented a car, but the city can also be reached by public transport from Orvieto.<\/p>\n

Parking options:<\/p>\n

"There's an abandoned hotel near Civita where they've set up a parking lot. The pay machine was broken, so we asked some local Italian tourists, and they told us to just leave the car there and nothing would happen."<\/p>\n

Further on there is a nice, but very narrow path.<\/p>\n

You come up against an observation deck and another parking lot, there is a parking meter, it was working.<\/p>\n

You can drive further and stand under the bridge or go down the stairs and walk (as we did).<\/p>\n

There's a fee to visit the city (you pay at the gate), but it's worth it. The walk across the bridge was far from easy, with a nasty drizzle and a cold wind blowing. A hat and gloves were very useful.<\/p>\n

The length of the bridge is about 300 meters.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Here you can see the parking lot under the bridge, there was also a free toilet there.<\/p>\n

City residents are transported on this kind of transport. At that moment, I wouldn't have refused it either.<\/p>\n

In some ways, it\u2019s even an extreme attraction.<\/p>\n

Then you pay and enter the gate. And you're in the city.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

An amazing sensation begins as soon as you enter the gate: it\u2019s as if time has truly stopped here and a knight is about to emerge from around the corner or a maid is about to hurry about her business.<\/p>\n
