\nThe second day in Tahoe promised to be sunny, and the park was very beautiful. Just south of DL Bliss SP is Emerald Bay SP, one of the most interesting in Tahoe.<\/p>\n

Clear emerald water, sheer cliffs, flowing waterfalls and pine trees descending to the very edge of the water.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

This place is called one of the most beautiful inland harbors in the world.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

It remains unknown what the Washoe Indians who lived here called this place, but since 1860 the bay has been called Eagle Bay because of the American eagles that settled along the southern coast.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

Rumor has it that artists were the first to call this place "emerald." History is silent on who coined the name, but since 1847, the place has been marked on maps as Emerald Bay.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

Black bears often come out onto rocky beaches to fish.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

Although the sandy beach is attractive, a few steps from the shore the bottom drops off sharply, opening up the possibility for diving enthusiasts to explore a full-fledged underwater world.<\/p>\n

Another highlight of the park is the only island in Tahoe \u2013 Fannette Island.<\/p>\n

Cold and clear, Eagles Falls falls from steep cliffs, carrying its waters down over rocks, providing a home for local trout.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

And it's impossible to miss the park's central attraction\u2014Vikingsholm. A 38-room mansion inspired by Norwegian homes and farms.<\/p>\n

The grass roof, boulder walls, and carved wooden decorations were all intended to evoke Scandinavia.<\/p>\n

And finally, the park's exit is adjacent to an excellent vantage point overlooking the neighboring lake, Cascade Lake, and the surrounding mountain peaks.<\/p>\n
