The world's largest sand composition has graced the Las Canteras beach on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands). More than 2,000 tons of sand were used to create the grandiose Christmas scene.
Every winter, the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria hosts the Belén de Arena festival of Christmas scenes made of sand. Last year, 214,000 people viewed the collection of sand compositions, and this season, the organizers expect to set a new attendance record. The open-air exhibition will run until January 8, reports Spain in Russian.
All the sculptures are dedicated to the theme of Christmas. There are the journeys of the Magi, the birth of Jesus and other scenes. The figures, created by professional sculptors from different European countries, reach four meters in height.
