Israel restricts entry for foreign tourists

The coronavirus continues to make adjustments to tourists' plans. Starting March 12, Israel will be effectively closed to foreign travelers - the country is introducing a two-week quarantine for all arriving guests.

 

 

“In Israel, the issue of security citizens of the country and tourists is a priority. Due to the fact that the coronavirus has spread widely in the world, the state decided to take unprecedented measures. Thus, all large mass events and meetings with the participation of more than 5,000 people have been cancelled or postponed in the country. From March 9, 2020, a decision was made on additional measures," said Vladimir Shklyar, Director of the Department of the Ministry of Tourism of Israel in the Russian Federation and the CIS, Advisor to the Embassy of the State of Israel.

As the department explained to the TRN portal, on March 12 At 20:00, all those entering the country (from anywhere in the world) must confirm that they can undergo home quarantine for 14 days. All types of hotel accommodation cannot be considered for these purposes. At the moment The order is valid until March 26.

"Until 8 p.m. on March 12, 2020, tourists can arrive from permitted countries. Entry will be prohibited from the following countries: China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Macau, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Egypt, Andorra, San Marino," the ministry clarified.

  • It was also noted that tourists already in Israel or arriving before 8 p.m. on March 12, 2020, can continue their travel itinerary, adhering to the following rules:
  • When the first signs of respiratory diseases appear, the tourist is obliged to call the ambulance number 101.
  • Strict hygiene rules must be observed.
  • Avoid crowded places, including public transport, recreational areas and shopping centres, hospitals and clinics.
  • A travel agent or guide must keep records of all places visited by tourists.
  • «Entry from Jordan is closed. Tourists in Israel who have flights from Jordan or vice versa, tourists in Jordan who fly from Israel - must go to the border 6 hours before the flight with proof of air tickets. Please try to avoid crossing the border to avoid possible problems with the entry permit," the department concluded.
