11,330 Russians will celebrate the New Year abroad, while 891,330 will celebrate at home, at their dachas, or visiting friends. These figures were published by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) on Thursday, December 21.
A week and a half before the New Year, VTsIOM published the results of a survey on the results of 2017 and Russians' hopes for the future. One of the questions concerned the New Year's Eve celebration.
The survey revealed that 781,331 Russians plan to celebrate New Year's at home, 81,331 at a friend's house, 31,331 at a dacha, 1 percent each at a restaurant or nightclub, 1 percent at a boarding house or holiday home outside the city, and 1 percent abroad. 41,331 respondents do not plan to celebrate New Year's.
If the VTsIOM data is accurate, then with a population of almost 150 million, approximately 1,500,000 of our compatriots will travel abroad. Considering that the average plane seats about 150 passengers, 10,000 aircraft will be needed to transport this entire percentage.
On average, just under 1,000 flights depart from Moscow daily. Therefore, transporting all Russian citizens abroad for New Year's holidays requires at least 10 days. Or almost the entire New Year's holiday, including weekends.
As TURIZM.RU previously reported, 107.3 million Americans plan to celebrate Christmas and New Year's away from home. However, most of them are traveling within their own country.
