Where are the cheapest 5-star hotels?

Skyscanner analyzed prices for 5-star hotels in 100 of the most popular cities and determined which offer the best luxury vacation at the best price.

First and second places were taken by the famous Egyptian resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, a night in a 5-star hotel where the average price is $105 and $121, respectively. The bustling and modern capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, rounds out the top three, where a room in a luxury hotel can be rented for $128.

Bulgaria's capital ranks fourth. A five-star double room in Sofia costs travelers $131. Sharjah ($134), Krakow ($152), Larnaca ($153), Warsaw ($157), and Ho Chi Minh City ($159) also made the top 10 destinations with the cheapest 5-star hotels.

Riga also deserves special mention, ranking 15th and offering the most affordable five-star hotel rates among other cities in the former Soviet Union. On average, guests pay $181 per night at a 5-star hotel in the Latvian capital.

Travellers will find the highest prices for luxury rooms among the top 100 destinations included in the ranking in Los Angeles ($696), Milan ($795), Ibiza ($893), the Maldives ($943) and New York City ($1,064).

Three Russian cities also made the list. The two capitals offer average prices: Moscow ranked 38th ($248) and St. Petersburg 61st ($324). Russia's main resort city, Sochi, on the other hand, ranked among the most expensive destinations for a 5-star vacation, with a price of $589 per night (94th place).
