Starting today, the forests of the Crimean Peninsula are closed to visitors for three weeks. The regional government has taken these measures due to the risk of fires caused by the ongoing heat wave.
According to Interfax, many areas of Crimea have already been assigned a high, fifth-class fire hazard status. Forests are prohibited, and entry is permitted only in special-purpose vehicles. However, through-traffic through forested areas is permitted on public roads. An exception has also been made for vacationers staying at recreation centers, children's camps, health resorts, and tourist centers located in close proximity to forests.
The authorities also remind everyone that lighting fires in forests is completely prohibited. Patrols of forest areas will be carried out by firefighting specialists, employees of the Crimean Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, municipal authorities, and volunteers.
