Saransk Airport has begun using electronic boarding passes.

On March 26, Saransk Airport began allowing tourists to board flights using electronic boarding passes. This was announced by the airport's General Director, Alexander Kistaikin. This announcement was published on the official website of the Russian Ministry of Transport.

"Today, we launched a program that allows passengers to board without a paper boarding pass. I believe we were one of the first in Russia to implement this program; not all airports have this technical capability. We tested this program today with Aeroflot, and we'll soon be expanding it to Sibir Airlines, Nordwind Airlines, and RusLine, which will operate flights to Mineralnye Vody and Yekaterinburg," said Alexander Kistaikin.

He also noted that to pass through the airport's secure area, passengers must check in online and have an electronic boarding pass. Furthermore, passengers have the option of using either an electronic or paper version.

"Using electronic tickets is also convenient for the boarding agent. If a passenger doesn't show up for boarding, it's easier to find them and see whether they've already entered the 'sterile zone'," he added.

As a reminder, a Ministry of Transport order came into effect on February 24 of this year, allowing passengers to enter the sterile area using an electronic boarding pass when checking in online. This pass can be used with an electronic security database and a barcode scanner. Additionally, paper boarding passes can still be printed and received at airports.
